Experience pure nature and spend a full day in the Austrian Alps!This tour takes you close to Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner (3. 798m/12. 460ft. )and to one of the most unspoilt regions in Europe, the Hohe Tauern National Park. The route, which follows the ancient Roman road across the Alps, leads through all possible alpine vegetation zones like mountain forests, pastures, rocks and finally ice. On the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, one of the most fascinating mountain roads of Europe, you will be travelling up to the so-called Franz-Josefs Hight at an altitude of 2. 400m/8. 000 ft. The breathtaking view across the longest glacier of the eastern Alps, Pasterze, and the central mountain range of the Alps with Mount Grossglockner is a truly unforgettable experience. After a longer stop with the possibility for a nice Lunch, this tour leads further to the charming mountain town Zell am See at Lake Zell with a break. From there it is a good hour back to your hotel in Salzburg.
Itinerary
This tour leads southwards towards the Austrian Alps. Along the Salzach river valley and via Werfen and St. Johann/ Pongau the route leads further through the Fusch valley to the toll station of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. From there the road ascends to the so-called Fuscher Törl and the Hochtor, the state border between Salzburg and Carinthia. The scenic drive - 48 km/ 30 Miles - ends at the Franz-Josefs Hight at an altitude of 2. 400m /8. 000 ft. After a longer stop with the possibility for a nice Lunch this tour leads further to the town of Zell am See at Lake Zell with a break. Via Lofer and Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria this tour goes back to Salzburg.
